Pay Per Click Advertising for Edmonton Local Business

OK, while we are not big fans of pay per click advertising, it does have its place in a local internet advertising campaign.  Don’t let your yellow pages salesman push you into spending a monthly amount on a Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising campaign solely on Google.  They will tell you that they are “partnered” with Google, and that they are “google certified“.  Sounds impressive enough, but you should not give a hoot if your local marketing consultant is “Google Certified” or not.  All that means is they know how to make google money.  You don’t need a consultant who has partnered with Google – you need a consultant to partner with YOU!  Depending on your business, your local internet advertising strategy may include pay per click, but most likely not on Google at all… there is a far better source for local internet advertising!

In fact, we don’t recommend Google Adwords PPC (pay per click) advertising for most local businesses.  There are some exceptions of course, but as mentioned, for most businesses there is a far better source of targeted local traffic…

If you guessed Facebook, you’re right.

Facebook Pay Per Click Advertising

You don’t have to have a Facebook Fanpage to advertise on Facebook, but it is more effective and we do recommend it.  There are numerous advantages to keeping people on Facebook, and an obvious one is that if they find your Facebook ad, they are Facebook users.  If you make them a “fan”, you can communicate with them, build a relationship, keep them informed, and convert them to customers.  You actually get more opportunities to convert Facebook users than search engine users. (if you have a professionally designed Fanpage that is).  Having said all that, you can direct responders to your Facebook  Pay Per Click Advertising to your website, or your Google Places page outside of Facebook.

A Final Warning About Pay Per Click Advertising…

It can be VERY costly!  This is where that google certification does come in handy because if you don’t know what you’re doing, you can easily overspend.  It’s kind of like not understanding your cell phone data plan, and thinking your teenager is covered… (until you get the bill!)

Pay Per Click Advertising was once an excellent way to get traffic – not so much anymore.
